Download links & available builds
Ledger Live is distributed for multiple platforms. Choose the correct build for your device and operating system.
System requirements
- Windows 10 or later (64‑bit)
- macOS 11 (Big Sur) or later — Apple Silicon supported
- Popular Linux distributions (Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora) — check specific package compatibility
- At least 500 MB free disk space and a modern CPU
- USB port for device connection (or Bluetooth for Ledger Nano X on mobile)
Verify the installer (recommended)
Ledger publishes cryptographic checksums and, in some cases, signatures for Ledger Live installers. Verifying the installer ensures it hasn’t been tampered with between Ledger’s servers and your computer.
- Download the checksum file from the official site.
- On Windows use
certutil -hashfile path\to\installer SHA256to compute the checksum. - On macOS or Linux use
shasum -a 256 path/to/installer. - Compare the resulting hash against the one published on the official site.
Installation & first‑time setup
After downloading, follow these steps to install Ledger Live and set up your Ledger device.
- Run the installer and follow on‑screen instructions to install Ledger Live.
- Open Ledger Live and accept the terms of service if prompted.
- Set up a device: If you have a new Ledger, follow Set up a new device to create a PIN and generate a recovery phrase. If restoring, choose Restore device and enter your recovery phrase on the device only.
- Connect your device via USB (or Bluetooth for Nano X mobile) when prompted and allow Ledger Live to detect it.
- Install apps on the device for the coins you’ll manage using the Manager tab in Ledger Live.
Key features of Ledger Live
Portfolio & accounts
See a consolidated view of your assets across supported blockchains. Add multiple accounts for each currency and track transaction history.
Send & Receive
Send and receive cryptocurrencies with transactions signed on your device. Ledger Live displays fees, network confirmations, and transaction status.
App Manager
Install and remove on‑device apps to enable support for different blockchains. Uninstalling an app does not delete your accounts or funds — you can reinstall later.
Staking & Earning
Ledger Live supports staking for selected assets, allowing you to delegate tokens and earn rewards while retaining custody through your Ledger device.
NFTs
View supported NFTs associated with your accounts. NFT support varies by blockchain and metadata availability.
Buy & Swap
Integrated third‑party providers let you buy crypto with fiat or swap between tokens. Providers may require KYC and charge fees — review before confirming.
dApp Connectivity
Connect Ledger to decentralized apps using WalletConnect or browser integrations — transactions are signed on the device to keep private keys offline.
Security — how Ledger Live keeps your funds safe
Ledger Live works together with Ledger hardware devices to provide a secure signing environment. Your private keys never leave the hardware device; Ledger Live only commands the device to sign transactions after you confirm on‑device.
- Isolated private keys: Private keys are stored in secure elements on the device and are never exposed to the host computer.
- Transaction verification on‑device: Verify addresses and transaction details directly on the device screen before approval.
- Recovery phrase: The 24‑word phrase is your wallet backup — protect it offline.
- Firmware & app updates: Keep both Ledger Live and device firmware updated for security improvements.
Advanced usage & tips
Using a passphrase
A passphrase acts as an optional 25th word, creating hidden wallets. It provides extra security but should only be used if you understand the risks — losing the passphrase means losing access to the funds in the hidden wallet.
Managing many accounts
If you manage many blockchains or accounts, consider naming accounts clearly in Ledger Live and using devices with larger app storage to avoid constant app swaps.
Dedicated environment
For large holdings, consider a dedicated computer with minimal software and strict security hygiene to reduce malware risk.
Troubleshooting common issues
Installer blocked or flagged
On macOS, allow the app in System Preferences → Security & Privacy. On Windows, confirm the publisher in SmartScreen and ensure you downloaded from the official site.
Ledger Live not detecting device
- Ensure the device is unlocked and on the correct app screen.
- Try a different USB cable or port (avoid USB hubs).
- Restart Ledger Live and check for updates.
Transaction failures
Check network status on a blockchain explorer, ensure you used the correct address and network, and consider resending with an appropriate fee.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Is Ledger Live free?
A: Yes. Ledger Live is free to download and use. Network and provider fees still apply when transacting or using third‑party services.
Q: Can I use Ledger Live without a Ledger device?
A: Ledger Live requires a hardware device to sign transactions. You can explore the interface without a device, but signing needs one.
Q: What if I lose my device?
A: Restore your wallet on a new Ledger device (or compatible wallet) using your 24‑word recovery phrase. If you suspect compromise, move funds to a new wallet immediately.
